The History of the Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Every designer fashion maven worth their salt is a teeny bit obsessed with Louis Vuitton. This coveted designer brand brings out exquisite products season after season, and their classic range is what designer accessories are all about – signature, versatile and timeless style, and arm candy to be proud of. Coco Chanel, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and Audrey Hepburn have all proudly toted their Louis Vuitton bags and played a key part in the brand’s fascinating evolution. If it’s good enough for the A-list and designer royalty, it’s certainly good enough for us!

As of the most iconic bags in the brand’s history, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is a truly classic piece. But where does the story of the bag begin?

A New Type of Arm Candy

It may surprise you to know that, despite its coveted status, the Neverfull was not created until 2007. Designed to live up to its name so that women could enjoy a roomier bag to hold all their essentials from day until night, there were initial rumours that it was created to rival the Goyard Saint Louis tote. These rumours remain unconfirmed but one thing’s for sure, the craftsmanship of the Neverfull is truly exceptional with each piece taking up to 45 hours to create.

Since 2007, the Neverfull has been reimagined a number of times in collaboration with different designers to create limited edition and specialist styles. Stephen Sprouse lent his iconic graffiti print to a number of designs while collaborations with Takashi Murakami saw a range of bestselling designs including the Cherry print and Cherry Blossom print.

Reimagining an Icon

But it wasn’t until 2013 that Louis Vuitton celebrated the Neverfull with their own fresh version of the iconic piece. In a nod to the brand’s iconic history, the revamped design feature interiors with heritage details inspired by the fashion house archives and a range of different coloured linings to add a twist on the much-loved Monogram canvas. The newer version also included a zip clutch to add another pocket and even more storage space, or to act as a standalone bag.

To Have and to Hold

As such an everlastingly popular piece in the Louis Vuitton collections, the Neverfull comes with a whole range of options that have evolved over the years. A choice of classic coated canvas or leather embraces the classic Damier two-tone chequered print, the Monogram print that dates back to 1986 and the Epi leather option from 1985. It also comes in three different sizes.

The Neverfull is a masterpiece of high-end fashion with a blend of timeless design and heritage details. Make sure to take good care of yours! Click right here to shop our range of specialist Louis Vuitton handbag hardware protectors and leather care.
